Azoospermia Causes

Azoospermia is a condition in which there is no sperm in the semen. It can also be denoted as infertile male. However, the disorder is treatable if azoospermia can be eliminated. Classification of azoospermia is into obstructive and non-obstructive. Obstructive include vasectomy or infection. While non obstructive are due to genetic predisposition, testicular cancer, chemotherapy. Though azoospermia causes vary, the approach to treatment has maintained stagnancy and that is to achieve fertility.

Causes along with types include :
A. Obstructive azoospermia: pathology in the ejaculatory duct/vas deferens
1. Vasectomy
2. Infection

B. Non-obstructive azoospermia
1. Cystic fibrosis
2. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism
3. Chemotherapy
4. Testicular malignancy

Testicular biopsy is often required to confirm the diagnosis. Assisted Reproductive Technology has belittled azoospermia causes and the consequences of infertility.

Azoospermia Symptoms

Azoospermia presents with no particular indication. It becomes evident only when the male undergoes a fertility test or when he is unable to conceive a child. The correct approach to identifying and eliminating azoospermia would be addressing it in due time. Azoospermia symptoms are as ambiguous as possible and often subclinical.

Symptoms of azoospermia are as follows:
1. Male infertility
2. Reduced sperm production as noted by semen analysis
3. Lack of vigor
4. Loss of libido
5. Depression

Although these azoospermia symptoms are non-specific to the condition, they are inter-related. On physical examination, the patients show no anatomical deformity. Male reproductive medicine has gained a leap in view of such cases.
